Embracing Seasonal Transitions and a New Face at the Office
By Jennifer Gremmel
As we transition into fall, you might be experiencing some changes, including busier schedules and shifting family routines. Even expected seasonal transitions can bring out a mix of excitement and anxiety, or even a sense of dread.
I’m Jennifer, and I recently joined Warm Haven Wellness as a temporary licensed mental health counselor. Even in my short time here so far, I have felt the warmth and welcoming environment that this practice offers.
Starting at a new office comes with an adjustment period and some new role anxiety. This is very similar to what many clients might feel when starting the counseling process, or how students might feel beginning classes this fall. If it takes a bit of time to adjust to these new changes, that is completely okay!
In this season of change, adding small habits to your daily routine can provide a sense of calm and grounding when life feels hectic.
For example, try stepping outside for 15–30 minutes within an hour of waking up. Natural sunlight helps regulate your internal clock and encourages your brain to produce serotonin, an important neurotransmitter that stabilizes mood.
-Small nervous system regulating routines such as making a warm cup of hot chocolate, wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket, or wearing a pair of fuzzy socks reminds your body that it’s safe and okay to slow down.
-Repetitive physical tasks including raking fall leaves, knitting a comfortable scarf, or kneading dough for bread or cinnamon rolls can help reduce anxiety thought loops and bring you back to the present moment.
What is one small way you are protecting your mental well-being this fall?
Please feel free to reach out if you need a space to process your own transitions or just need some extra support right now, and you can reach me at jg@warmhavenwellness.com to schedule a session.
